I just had to have one.ĭelta introduced the world’s first tilting-arbor cabinet saw in 1939 with its fully-enclosed steel cabinet and polished cast iron top. After leading the market for decades, the mid 1960s and 1970s brought the Powermatic Model 66 table saw into a neck-and-neck position with the Unisaw, boasting the heaviest trunnion assembly (table saw guts) and virtually vibration-free operation. That said, not sure if they had them in ‘68.So, when I told my wife I was buying a really old table saw when I already had the top-of-the-line, “last table saw I’ll ever need to buy” table saw already sitting in the shop, she avoided eye contact with me for a month. Every passionate woodworker knows that the early model Delta Unisaws are legendary workhorses and the grandfather of all modern-day saws. Formerly the Rockwell company was known as, ready, Pittsburgh Equitable Meter and Manufacturing Company. In 1945 Delta was purchased by Rockwell Manufacturing Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Easier to swap the plate out than bolt/unbolt an old style splitter. In 1942 Marshal Fields sold the company to the Timken Detroit Axle Company, controlled by Colonel Willard Rockwell. I find these easier to deal with than a splitter that’s bolted onto the trunnion like older unisaws came with. Jetlock fence, carbide blade, and miter gage.

Vintage 10' Delta Unisaw - 1950s Not rated yet Delta 10' Unisaw with 3HP 220 volt single phase motor. Basically, I made the splitter long and raised the blade into it so that at 1” the splitter is right over the back of the blade. Lot 300 - Delta Rockwell 10' Unisaw w/ Box of Blades - (Model 34-450) Lot Number: 300 Ask Seller Question. I have a few - two 90 (explained below I have several 90s) 45, and 15 (my most commonly used blade angles).įor the 90 degree inserts, I have one where the blade has been raised into the splitter for 1” or less stock and one for 1” plus. Can’t recall but I do remember that the price was high for what you got when you can just make throat plate inserts with splitters. Shark guard makes a splitter that tilts with the blade but I don’t think it raises/lowers. There’s no true riving knife for an older unisaw that I’m aware of. Splitters are stationary and are more common on older saws, as well as easier to find or adapt to in several ways. No top-level wood ID, low effort, or price queriesĪ riving knife moves up/down and tilts with the blade to stay the same distance from the blade no matter what.
